How to Care for Your Jewelry
Sterling Silver:
Fine silver contains 99.9% silver or more and is generally considered too soft and malleable for durable jewelry worn frequently.
Sterling silver contains 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals (usually copper). Both fine silver and sterling silver are
precious metals. All the silver used in our jewelry is sterling silver unless otherwise stated in the product description.
During our packing and shipping process we have wrapped your sterling silver jewelry in acid free tissue paper in a sealed airtight bag (or we have provided this inside the jewelry box for your storage). These
help to prevent tarnish build up in the silver. Tarnish is a dulling that naturally occurs when silver reacts
with sulfur or hydrogen sulfide in the air. You can substitute a soft cloth for the acid free tissue paper during storage.
When your jewelry is not being worn we recommend wrapping each individual sterling silver jewelry item in acid free tissue paper or a soft cloth and
then in a sealed airtight bag or container. This will prevent tarnish build up, slow down the oxidation process and prevent
scratching. You may also try gently buffing the silver with a 100% cotton cloth. A favorite in the jewelry industry is the Sunshine ® Cloth
which cleans, brightens, and removes tarnish and fingerprints with special non-scratch micro-abrasives.
Gold Filled:
14K gold filled jewelry items have a solid layer of 14K gold bonded over a core base metal. The outer layer of gold filled items have a thick layer of solid 14K gold
and will last as long as solid gold jewelry with normal wear and care.
Care for your gold filled jewelry is fairly simple. Gold filled jewelry will not tarnish like sterling silver. Your jewelry can also be cleaned with a soft toothbrush, mild liquid
dish soap and water. Brush gently, rinse the jewelry thoroughly with water afterwards and let air dry or pat dry with a soft cloth.
Freshwater Pearls
Pearls are much softer than natural gemstones and they should be wiped gently with a 100% cotton cloth. Pearls can also be cleaning using mild soap and
warm water and a soft brush (an abrasive brush can scratch the pearl surface). Do not leave pearls soaking in the soapy water. Wipe the pearls immediately
afterwards and let dry before storing.
All Jewelry:
We recommend not overcrowding all your jewelry into one drawer, jewelry box or storage unit. This creates a greater chance for your jewelry to get tangled or scratched. Instead, each item
should be stored separately in individual plastic or velvet bags or wrapped in acid free tissue paper (for sterling silver). Avoid storing your jewelry in a damp environment or in direct sunlight. Always
put on your jewelry in the morning after you have dressed and used hair spray or perfume. These chemicals can leave a residue on your jewelry
that can harm or dull silver, gold and gemstones. Always take your jewelry off at night before dressing to reduce any chances of snagging your clothing. We also highly recommend that you put on
and take off each piece of jewelry slowly and carefully - some elements may be fragile and could break if pulled with intense force.
